At Zyzaa Tuition, we believe the early years of primary school are crucial in shaping a child’s confidence, attitude towards learning and long-term academic success. In Years 1 and 2, our focus is not only on improving academic skills but also on helping children become happy, confident learners who enjoy the learning process.
We recognise that every child learns at a different pace. Some may need extra support to strengthen their core skills, while others benefit from additional challenge to stay engaged. Our small-group classes allow tutors to provide individual attention while also encouraging collaboration, communication and independent thinking.
Following the National Curriculum
Our teaching is based on the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum for England, ensuring that all learning supports what children are doing in school. We regularly revisit key concepts to build secure understanding rather than relying on memorisation.
In English, we develop confident readers and writers. Lessons include phonics support where needed, reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary building and creative writing. We encourage children to read widely, understand texts deeply and express their ideas clearly through speaking and writing.
In Mathematics, we focus on building strong number foundations before introducing more complex ideas. Children develop fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, alongside problem-solving skills. Key topics include place value, fractions, measurement, time, money, geometry and reasoning, all taught through practical and engaging activities.
Learning Through Engagement
We believe young children learn best when they are actively involved. Our lessons combine structured teaching with interactive activities, games, discussion and problem-solving. This makes learning enjoyable while keeping children focused and motivated.
We take time to ensure each child fully understands a concept before moving on. This approach builds confidence and helps children become independent learners who are not afraid to ask questions, make mistakes and try again.
Preparing for the Future
Our programme also gently prepares pupils for Year 2 SATs in a calm and supportive way. We introduce the assessment format gradually so children feel familiar and confident, without pressure. Our priority is always understanding, progress and confidence rather than test performance alone.
Working Together with Parents
We believe children achieve the best results when tutors, parents and schools work together. We regularly track progress and provide feedback so parents understand their child’s strengths and areas for improvement. We also offer simple guidance on how learning can be supported at home through reading, conversation and everyday activities.
Building a Love of Learning
Above all, we want every child to feel proud of their progress. By creating a positive, supportive and nurturing environment, we help children develop not only strong English and Maths skills but also curiosity, resilience and a genuine love of learning.
